October 2015 24-Hour Readathon

Rosie the dog of Furry Reads reading Roadmap by Roadtrip Nation
I already have a Roadmap..to my food bowl behind me!
Woof! My name is Rosie and I'm taking over my mom's blog to join in the 24-Hour Readathon. My parents have been building a website for me, but they didn't have time to finish it so I said I'll take over the blog for now. They happily agreed.

If you are interested in following more of my adventures, you can do so on Facebook, Twitter, on Instagram or you can email me here.

The 24 Hour Readathon gives me a chance to read all the books I want in a span of 24 hours. Now, I'm a very active dog and I like to play with my dad so I'll take a few lot of breaks to snooze, rest, and eat, but I'm doing what I can, right?

I'll post all my updates on this link (boo my parents don't want me to create new pages for them) - so here's an introductory meme.

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

I'm reading from sunny Jacksonville, Florida.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

Roadmap by Roadtrip Nation - mainly because I need to only read 50 pages in it. Woof!
Another book is Hello, Goodbye and Everything in Between, because you know, it's a cute book.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

My doggie treats, crumbs that my parents left behind, cereal, bread, oooh a lot of them. With these doggie eyes, my parents can't resist anything I ask for.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I was adopted from the Humane Society by my parents, and was a stray dog. My dad was patient enough to train me and both parents loved me, and I now love my new home and am spoiled to bits. Most people say I look like an ewok, from the Star Wars movies. Do I?

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to
?

I haven't participated in the readathon yet, but my mom had, on several occasions, when she was still living in Manila. My parents are busy with a guest renting out our spare room today so I'll sneak in their room and read while they're distracted!

The 24 Hour Readathon - October 2014. Updates, and Everything Else

It's that time of the year again! A readathon. Woot Woot!
Normally, I spend my weekends traveling, but this weekend is an exception. I am staying in on Saturday (well, most of Saturday, anyway) and partaking in Dewey's 24 hour readathon.

The concept is simple: read as much as you can for 24 hours and partake in the community events.
I have been active a few years back, but actually stopped. And I'm back again! :)

This weekend, I'm going to be reading a lot of travel related books - mostly guidebooks for upcoming trips - which reminds me, I need to go to the library tomorrow morning to borrow more of them! I'm nearly done with one! And this year, well, looks like I'll just keep updating this post should I partake in the hourly updates.

Sooo..... welcome! And thank you for visiting my website!

Pages Read - Nearly the whole book of the Last Little Blue Envelope.
Think there's like less than 80 pages left.

Fell asleep and woke up after the challenge is over. Oh well. It was fun though, can't wait for the next one :)

Hour 16 Challenge: The Pet Parade

Thought it'll be good to share a photo of the baby bear (my dog). His real name is actually Goofy, but I call him Goofybear :)

Hour 12 Challenge:

Mid-Event Survey:
1. What are you reading right now?
I'm reading "The Last Little Blue Envelope" by Maureen Johnson

2. How many books have you read so far?
0! LOL I'm a really, really slow reader.

3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon?
Finishing the last 100 pages of "The Last Little Blue Envelope", oh and watching the last Harry Potter movie on abc family!

4. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those?
Yes! A lot! Well, I don't deal with them - I just get distracted very easily lol.

5. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far?
A lot of people all coming together to read, read, and read. This feels like such a big event now :)

Hour 5: An hour already????

Now that I am fully awake and the boyfriend is cooking lunch while I am trying to read and update & do challenges at once, I present my Hour 5 Challenge photo!
Book Staging

As you know, I am more of a traveler than a reader now and mostly read travel books for my leisure time.
Here's my entry - New Orleans. The beads, the jester, what more can you ask for?

Underneath that is the Lost Girls World - a travel memoir.. and beside it is Maureen Johnson's The Last Little Blue Envelope, two books which I'm reading alternately during the readathon.

Hour 4: Updates and Challenges

So I fell asleep between hour 3 and 4 and just woke up. I was happily reading my Cancun book when zzzzzz......
But now my boyfriend is back with the library books and I'm trying to catch up, reading The Last Little Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson.

Hour 1: Meme Time.

So, a bit of an introduction - my name is Ruby and I'm reading from Jacksonville, Florida. I don't have a particular book in my stack to look forward to yet - as the library is still closed so I'm still reading guidebooks and Sophie Kinsella's Twenties Girl. I don't like snacking like reading!

A little bit about myself - I like to travel - as the blog shows. Once upon a time, when I was living in Manila, I had nothing much to do but read books so that's where my love of books comes from. Since moving to the UK and the US eventually, I find that I read a little less and explore a bit more so reading took a back seat.

I participated in a few other readathons - way back in Manila. One thing I'll do differently from this readathon is read more travel books or books that interest me more.

I've Lost the Reading Mojo

It's the end of the Holy Week as I type this. Four straight days of not going to work, and I was stuck at home, a staycation, if you would like to call it like that. What did I do? I read, I went online, and I watched a whole load of telly. Ugh. Not my ideal way to spend four days of free time. I should have just booked a ticket abroad and used the time to discover new places.

I thought I would love the time off, I could have used it to catch up on tv shows that I would have wanted to watch but neveer had time for, or to catch up on my reading. God knows how many books I've bought and haven't even started to read yet which are currently awaiting to be read. Well, I did manage to catch up on a few episodes of programmes I did want to watch though, and I did manage to finish two books and progress a bit on other books I've started to read but this holiday wasn't satisfying enough for me. I've lost the reading mojo.

For me, I am most happy reading when I am just passing the time: either in transit (sitting on a bus, a plane, or a jeepney) or just waiting for the morning after an insomniac night or just trying to pass the time while waiting for the next activity or waiting for something (be that a person or while in a queue).

I lost the ability to just sit down in a quiet corner (except maybe if I was hanging out in a beach, but then again that's also in a new place, right? Not sitting in my bedroom at home, whiling away the weekend hours with a book), and I've also lost the drive to go to a bookstore and pick out something new to read.

Ok, maybe the last part was a bit of a lie. I found myself in National Bookstore quite a few times this month as there is an ongoing 20% off summer sale and I couldn't resist getting some titles that I have already devoured: most of them wishlist books that I would have tried to wait for to come out in BookSale. But still, these are the books that are just tiding me over after work. Just something to do, not a real hobby or anything of that sort.

How can I get the reading mojo back? Or is it just a complete change that came over me? Maybe you only need to have one hobby at a time: books have finally been put on a back seat as travel now takes precedence, perhaps?
